Name Creatures

This is a fun group or partner activity for any age.

Start by folding a piece of paper in half lengthways and open to create a fold line. Using chalk, pastel or a soft pencil write your name just above the fold line. Fold paper again using the same fold line and press down running your hands all along the folded paper so that the chalk transfers to the other side creating a mirror image of your name on each side of the fold line. Now it gets creative! Using your name as a starting point use markers, paints or whatever you like to create your creature. Try not to think too much about what you want your creature to look like, follow your instincts and let it come to life on its own. When everyone feels their creatures are complete, take turns introducing them them all to the group as if they were a friend. You could talk about things they like to do or maybe your creature wants to reveal a secret life, do they have an alias? Maybe they've come to a support group or an undercover organization. If you notice that some creatures have things in common they might want to join up to share more of their stories and learn more about each other. Use your imagination, be playful and curious about these new creatures! From here there are limitless options to get to know and play with your creatures: * How is your creature feeling right now? Tell a story or journal from the perspective of your creature. *Is any part of your creature feeling hesitant? Which part? How does your creature want to care for and support their worried or overwhelmed parts? *Your creature could write you a letter giving you some needed advice. *Play with props and costumes to learn more about what your creature likes to wear and do. *What does your creature like to eat? * Become your creature and move around the room the way it does. *Give your creature a voice or a song. * Maybe they want to play and instrument or dance to music. *What type of music do they like? Are they more introverted or extroverted? Loud or quiet? Quick or slow? *How does your creature interact with the group? *In which ways is your creature similar to you and in which ways are they different? *You might want to create a biography about your creatures life or share an interesting story about them. * Try taking on the personality and traits of your creature and role play with the group as your creatures go on an adventure or solve a problem. *How does it feel to interact not as your usual self? *Are there any parts of your creature that you would like to embody more of in your own life?
