Children and Teens

Classes for children and teens are play-based and relationship focused.

Life and wellness skills such as emotional regulation, body and spatial awareness, confidence, healthy boundaries, decision making, empathy, consent, problem solving, creative thinking, collaboration and curiosity are incorporated through fun and thought provoking art activities. Learning is crystalized through layers of artistic experiences in a variety of art modalities.

Body Song classes are movement centred and involve movement activities, freestyle and collaborative dance along with visual art making, drama, poetry, storytelling and music making.

Art for Social Change

The purpose of this class is to empower students to trust their ability to create meaningful change in their own lives, communities and the world, with a focus on the importance of feeling heard and listening with trust and empathy. We will explore the role the arts play in social change and experiment with storytelling through different art forms. Playful art making experiences will demonstrate the importance of lived experience in leading social change and children will be invited to practice leadership skills along with the skill of stepping back, trusting and empowering others to lead.

Goal Setting and Resource Building

This playful art making class for children 9 and up focuses on empowerment through self-discovery. Participants will be invited to experiment with their own interests and passions using multi-modal expressive arts and to set goals based on their intrinsic motivation to learn and grow. We will then explore what supports or skills are needed to achieve goals and the inner and outer resources each child already has that will support them as they work towards their goals in life. Emphasis will also be given to creative problem solving skills and developing a growth mindset.

Preschool Body Song

This dance centred class invites 3-6 year olds to explore storytelling through drama, unchoreographed movement, visual art and music making. Children will recognize emotions by the different physical sensations produced in the body and learn healthy ways of expressing and regulating their emotions. This class is not parented but parents or caregivers (and siblings in arms) are always welcome.

Gay Couple with their Daughter

This freestyle movement centred class offers toddlers, young children and their caregivers a chance to explore expressive arts together. Each class will consist of relationship building movement and visual art activities layered with other art modalities to provide a multi-sensory experience and promote body and spatial awareness.  Weather permitting some or all of this class may take place outside. Babes in arms (and carriers) are welcome.

"Children make their own paths into the unknown, paths that we would never think of making for them."
